Volunteer with Girls On The Run

We rely on volunteers to assist with many different aspects of our organization and we look forward to using your time and talents to help inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident!

 Volunteer Opportunities

Site Liaison

Site Liaisons are the first volunteers that start the GOTR process at a school or community center.  They are the point of contact between schools and Girls on the Run Charleston and work closely with the council to ensure all necessary materials are approved and confirmed. These tasks include: marketing the program at your site, overseeing registration questions, and working with school/site administrators to secure practice space.

This volunteer position requires 5-10 hours prior to season start to allow the most fluid program dynamic.  During the season, site liaisons, may coach or simply remain a point of contact for the program.

For questions on how to become a volunteer site liaison and get the GOTR program at your school or community center, please email information@gotrcharleston.org

Coach

Coaching is one of our most rewarding volunteer positions, but also the most time intensive. We ask that each site have at least 1 Head Coach who can commit to 2 days per week and at least 2 Assistant Coaches who can commit to at least 1 day (preferably 2 days) per week for the 10-week season.

In addition to being role models for confidence and healthy living, coaches must be available to attend our 1 day Certification Training to learn how to deliver the Girls on the Run curriculum. Coaches work directly with the girls, teaching them healthy habits and training them for the culminating event, our end of program 5k event!

You DO NOT need to be a runner to coach, but we do ask that you value physical fitness in your own life.

Coaching requires a commitment of approximately 3- 5 hours per week for 10 weeks which includes travel and lesson preparation time. Coaches meet with their group twice a week for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Each program has a minimum of 3 coaches per location and coaches share the coaching responsibilities. Coaches must also attend the season-end GOTR 5k with their girls.

This coaching commitment must not be taken lightly. Consistency is extremely important to our girls, therefore you must be able to attend practices for the entire 10-week season.

For all coach related questions, please email information@gotrcharleston.org
